Why do we grow pubic hair? (I know it's puberty, but evolution wise, WHY is it neccessary?)?

Really? WHY do we grow hair all under our armpits and all over our genitals? What good does it do?

When people havent shaved their underarms, all you get is stronger B.O. So what gives?

I would be much happier without it.

Why do we grow pubic hair? (I know it's puberty, but evolution wise, WHY is it neccessary?)?

The most convincing hypothesis is that pubic hair 閳?like axillary (armpit) hair 閳?traps pheromones, those erotic scents that play such an important and fascinating role in human sexual communication. These pheromones are produced when the apocrine sweat glands release a viscous and odorless secretion on the skin surface that, when broken down by bacteria, results in a characteristic sexual scent. Pubic hair and underarm hair are a human being閳ユ獨 primary 閳ユ笩cent traps閳? Mammalian pheromones influence the secretion of gonadotropin 閳?releasing hormone (GnRH), a hormone that has short- and long-term effects on neurotransmission. Studies (including various smelly T-shirt-sniffing experiments) have shown that human pheromones have a significant effect on the attractiveness of one sex to the other.

Odor is such a crucial component of mammalian mating. With all the deodorants, colognes, douches, and Brazilian waxes out there 閳?it閳ユ獨 a wonder anyone can find a date anymore.

Why do we grow pubic hair? (I know it's puberty, but evolution wise, WHY is it neccessary?)?

well, before we had personal hygiene in the stone ages, hair was effective at keeping parasites and bigger critters outta there. I know, it sounds nasty, but hey, we didn't even have a clean water system then and who knows what could be in there? =O

Why do we grow pubic hair? (I know it's puberty, but evolution wise, WHY is it neccessary?)?

to keep us warm!!!

Why do we grow pubic hair? (I know it's puberty, but evolution wise, WHY is it neccessary?)?

It protects us from bacteria 'cause those areas are sensitive and prone to getting skin infections.

Why do we grow pubic hair? (I know it's puberty, but evolution wise, WHY is it neccessary?)?

I would too. i think it's leftover from our ongoing evolution.

we used to be apes er monkeys er something.

We still have appendices. We are not genetically perfect.

Why do we grow pubic hair? (I know it's puberty, but evolution wise, WHY is it neccessary?)?

Why do we grow pubic hair? (I know it's puberty, but evolution wise, WHY is it neccessary?)?

They are evolutionary features that have lost their use over time. Pubic hair used to perform a cleanliness function (basically help keep the area clear of foreign particulate matter.

Why do we grow pubic hair? (I know it's puberty, but evolution wise, WHY is it neccessary?)?

I heard that it helps ward off infection. Evolutionarily speaking, it takes tons and tons of time for something that is no longer genetically necessary to be weeded out of our species' everyday life. So pubic hair might have been a way to conserve body heat in the past (during the colder parts of the ice age) and now that we don't need it anymore, it might take eons for it to go away. Won't happen in your lifetime, so just deal with it as best you can, I guess. *sigh* I know, because it can annoy me too! :-)

Why do we grow pubic hair? (I know it's puberty, but evolution wise, WHY is it neccessary?)?

hair around mucus membranes like your genitals, anus, and nostrils, acts as a filter to keep germs and particulate matter out of these sensitive places.

Why do we grow pubic hair? (I know it's puberty, but evolution wise, WHY is it neccessary?)?

only GOD knows

Why do we grow pubic hair? (I know it's puberty, but evolution wise, WHY is it neccessary?)?

The location of body hair is associated with the location of endrochrine glands and pheromones and sexual attraction--but I suppose that's neither hair nor there.

Why do we grow pubic hair? (I know it's puberty, but evolution wise, WHY is it neccessary?)?

As far as women are concerned, female pubic hair helps wick away sweat and bacteria to help ward off bladder infections. I have no idea why males have pubs.

Why do we grow pubic hair? (I know it's puberty, but evolution wise, WHY is it neccessary?)?

I can't really answer your question about the arm pit hair. But Dr Oz says that pubic hair is like an lubricant for the sex act.

Why do we grow pubic hair? (I know it's puberty, but evolution wise, WHY is it neccessary?)?

You know if a bloke were to trim down his pubic hair, then his penis will look bigger. Just a little tip for all you insecure blokes out there.

Why do we grow pubic hair? (I know it's puberty, but evolution wise, WHY is it neccessary?)?

It's for decoration. We can even braid them. lol

Why do we grow pubic hair? (I know it's puberty, but evolution wise, WHY is it neccessary?)?

we beg more then evolution can offer right now. wait a few thousand years and it might be all gone

Why do we grow pubic hair? (I know it's puberty, but evolution wise, WHY is it neccessary?)?

pubic hair helps to retain certain glandular secretions that are supposed to be a powerful aphrodisiac. The nation's indefatigable corps of monkey testers has determined that armpit perfume has a direct stimulatory effect on the primate libido. The alluring fragrance of moldy T-shirts is thus accounted for, I guess. Clearly more scientific research is called for.

Why do we grow pubic hair? (I know it's puberty, but evolution wise, WHY is it neccessary?)?

i always thought about that too. if you look at the animals we diverged from (apes) they all have hair covering their entire body. It could be just a trait that remains because we havent diverged far enough from other species yet.

Why do we grow pubic hair? (I know it's puberty, but evolution wise, WHY is it neccessary?)?

It's ancestral. It protects the reproductive organs from the harsh weather. Basically, it keeps the boys warm so their little swimmers will work. Women make less sense, as our reproductive organs are in our abdomen, but physiologically, the reason is same. To protect the procreation of the race.

Why do we grow pubic hair? (I know it's puberty, but evolution wise, WHY is it neccessary?)?

Hair was originally on our bodies for protection from the elements and still is to a certain degree. The hair on our heads keeps all our body heat from escaping and pubic hair is for protection of our genital area. The only reason I can see why hair is on our arm pits is to promote the selling of razors. Well that one is a stretch but the other two are serious.

Why do we grow pubic hair? (I know it's puberty, but evolution wise, WHY is it neccessary?)?

The two most popular theories are evolution (pubic hair is one of those secondary sex characteristics that develops as a visual signifier for potential mates that you閳ユ獧e 閳ユ笧eady閳?to reproduce) and pheromones (the hair traps your sexy musk and seductive funk in order to attract potential mates). A common myth is that pubic hair helps keep you warm down there.

Pubic hair is more likely a natural leftover from our prehistoric ancestors: they were hairy all over to keep them warm!

Why do we grow pubic hair? (I know it's puberty, but evolution wise, WHY is it neccessary?)?

hmmm...interesting. Only god knows. Maybe he wants us to be sexy...hehehe

Why do we grow pubic hair? (I know it's puberty, but evolution wise, WHY is it neccessary?)?

Those are areas where lymph nodes are located (including the neck, eg: beards). The hair to protect the skin from bacteria that may infect the nodes.

Why do we grow pubic hair? (I know it's puberty, but evolution wise, WHY is it neccessary?)?

Okay, why do need eyelashes? So when the wind blows no sand gets into your eye, right? So, same thing there, to keep it more clean and protect. It goes way back when people didn't wear clothes. I'm sure back then people were much hairy (so the body doesn't get cold). And now we are almost all bold....
