Why do locked hair grow faster then normal hair?

I have not cut my hair since I was in middle school and have had 2 children. They say pregancy make your hair grow. My hair is healthly but only mid shoulder lenght. My girl friend has locked her hair and has only been locking her hair for a year and it is in the middle of her back.

well you will have the longer hair when she gets sick of the locked look and has to have all of her hair cut off.

Well first of all genetics may play a role in how long your hair can actuallly grow. Secondly you dont necessarily grow more hair from having kids. Even though there are some hormone changes that affect hair growth, the prenatal vitamins are the reason you hair grows. Also not cutting your hair is bad, bad , bad. Don't go and chop it off. Just remember when you get your ends cut, you are cutting off dead hair and/or split ends so that healthy hair can grow. Be careful though, some stylists get scissor happy. You don't need to trim more then an inch to an inch and a half of your hair. Deep condition it, keep the curlers and flat irons to a minimum and wrap it at night w/ a silk scarf. Your hair is a good length in my opionion.

It's not so much that locked hair grows faster as it is that locked hair is not breaking. Your hair is always growing, that is why you see the roots in someone who has coloured their hair and that is why someone of African descent who processes their hair must get their hair relazed every few weeks.

In normal day- to- day combing some of your hair is breaking off and based on genetics and other factors such as how well you care your hair it will not grow pass a point. With locked hair there is no combing, no breaking and so the hair keeps growing and growing.

The hair does not grow faster it's just that growth accumulates.
