Why does your hair grow quicker with dreads than non-dreads?

I was just wondering why does hair that is dreaded or locked grow so quick. Although people with locks do get their hair styled, I'm thinking that it's because the hair is not messed with a lot like brushed/combed or a combination of stlyling products with added stress which makes hair come out but this is just my guess.

I really want to know why hair that's locked grow very quick than hair that is not locked?

Ok, hair actually DOES grow faster in dreads. It works much the same way as braided hair does... because of the way the locked new growth pulls on the hair folicle it stimulates it to grow faster, in order to make it stop pulling (like a natural defense)... however anyone keeping up with the maitenence will make sure it continues locking, so it coninues to grow quickly...

And you've been misinformed... you have to use very few products on dreads in order to keep them healthy... most products would leave residue in your dreads even after washing which would trap moisture and cause mildue.

Dreads are usually very clean and very healthy... if they were too damaged they would break off due to excessive weight on weak hair.

I think your guess is a very good one. Hair doesn't really grow faster one way or another, when you have locks your hair is not breaking off as it usually is with other hairstyles. There really isn't any added stress or chemicals to cause hair breakage so the hair the grows long remains long instead of breaking. I hope that answered your question.

lol It doesn't grow faster. Its because dreaded and locked hair gets handled less. All the chemicals normally used in hair isn't needed. which makes the hair in better health. Also all the hair that is normally shed in non dreaded or locked hair gets trapped in the lock giving each lock its length
