Why won't my hair grow past a certain point?

I have hair in the front that just won't grow past my chin. It doesn't matter what I do! It has been the same length for years! The rest of my hair grows, but not these strands in the front! The ends are not split.

I also have the same problem with hair at the back of my neck. I have these short hairs that will not grow past 2 or 3 inches there. It makes my hair look thick at that point, and then it thins out below that.

Is this normal? Is there anything I can do?

Unfortunately, the problem you are speaking of may be (as stated in a previous answer) a genetic issue.

Some other things to consider are your diet, the way you take care of your hair, how you wear your hair, and whether or not you are on certain medications. All of these things have a knack for destroying your crowning glory if you don't take an active stance, and address the problem directly.

Lastly, has it occurred to you that your hair might be breaking off due to styling damage? Perhaps you could take a break from wearing ponytails at the base of your neck, or heat styling, for example, and see if you notice any difference in the thickness and quality of your hair. As always, I recommend intensive conditioning hair preparations like cholestorol based conditioners, and hot oil treatments. Maybe the shampoo you are using is stripping your hair and causing breakage. Hair-related probelms are difficult to assess sometimes because every person is different. It's just a matter of trial and error until you find out what is right for you.

I hope this helps you. Good luck.

Because Its Probably a Genetic Inheritance.

They will keep growing, if you keep cutting those split ends. And keep using Vitamin E.

i have the same problem and i'm a professional stylist. methleham has a lot of good suggestions; it could also be that these areas have a different TEXTURE than the rest of your hair. hair also has a natural breaking point - that hair might just be at the breaking point. about 80 hairs a day fall out (on average) and regenerate themselves. are you wearing necklaces? this could be the reason it's like that on your neck.

personally i like those 'baby hairs'; they give the haircut personality.
